Love's Greatest Definition

Sunday's message for August 28, 2011 is entitled, Love's Greatest Definition.  The scripture text is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.  The main point of the message is that love is both an emotional/spiritual feeling and a discipline.  Sometimes we have to go ahead and love even though we may not feel like it.  I'm sure there are many times when God does not feel much like loving us but He does anyway, unconditionally.

Love is as much about learning how to as it is about responding spontaneously to the heart.  There is a way to love by godly principles that is foreign to mankind.  Why?  Because we are born with a sinful desire that tarnishes our ability to love in a godly fashion.

This is why God gives us a perfect definition of how to love as He loves in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (Love never fails).  We always struggle with overcoming the desires of our sinful nature and learning to love is not different.  In our sinful way we love selfishly.  We care mostly about our own needs and wants.  But the power of God's love within us at the point of salvation pulls us in a different direction - the perfect definition of love.  When we refuse to go in that direction we remain in a selfish type of love and grieve God.

Make sure to hear Sunday's message about learning the godly way to love by unpacking God's perfect definition for it.  If you can't join us on Sunday morning, be sure to check out our website where you can hear the message in its entirety.  Blessings of the day to you.
