False Teachers who Look like Genuine Christians

I take my job as Pastor very seriously.  We have been talking about the importance of well founded, scripturally supported, doctrines of the church, as being the foundation for universal faith and practice for the church of all-time.  The historical doctrines that have been fine-tuned over the past 2000 years are doctrines that can be trusted, and should unite the church universally.  These doctrines have been studied and taught; examined and tested, time and time again; and generally speaking, the same doctrines of faith rise to the top in mainstream Christian religion.

Every century has produced  a number of popular figures who have challenged these great truths.  One such popular pastor and writer is Rob Bell.  Therefore, I feel it is my responsibility to warn my congregation to be well-grounded in their faith if you read Rob Bell's latest book entitled, "Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived".  I haven't read the book yet but I have been reading the reviews.  I have included a few articles critiquing the book.  You can judge for yourself whether or not you want to read it.

It is amazing how this example of false teaching fits into the warnings that Jude issued to churches in the first century A.D.  Folks, we need to stand strong on the foundations of our tried and true doctrines of faith.  Just because they seem hard and unappealing to this post-modern generation, does not mean that we should change them.

Rob Bell says that historical doctrines are merely springs of a trampoline on which we jump.  This implies that doctrines are not meant to be solid and firm, but stretching and expounding.  Never has it been so important for churches to hold true to the historical doctrines of faith then these days of such liberal, heretical teachings.

Blessings,
